Edward Mello, of Smyrna, Delaware, born June 10, 1936, passed peacefully from this place on Friday, December 14, 2018. His wife Joyce and three children Lisa. Lori and Steven were with him, listening to Christmas music and holding his hand as he passed to the Angels’ care.
“Eddy” Mello grew up in East Providence, Rhode Island and enjoyed a big family with parents Manuel and Angelina as well as siblings Mary, Dorothy, Manny, Brenda and Bobby. He met his wife of 62 years, Joyce, at Jack Witchie’s Barn Dance in the early ‘50’s. Eddy made and cared for a beautiful family of three children and is the patriarch of an extended family whose branches reach from Rhode Island to New Hampshire, Delaware to California. “Steady Eddy” was reliable, jovial and hard-working.
In 1972 Ed relocated to Ossipee, New Hampshire and opened Mello’s Restaurant, the first of several family-owned and operated businesses in N.H. Ed instilled confidence in his crew of wife and kids, ages 8-16 years. Son Steve Mello is proud that his Dad’s work ethic was passed on by example. And grandson, Eric Burnham, enjoyed hearing stories of his Grandpa’s many jobs. Recently, Ed worked table #13 at Spencer’s Bazaar in Dover, Delaware. Ed would greet everyone with a big smile and gave the greatest hugs. His compassion extended to animals and he loved his pet dogs.
