Donald R. "Doc" Parkhill

     Donald R. “Doc” Parkhill, age 80, of Magnolia, DE passed away February 15, 2018 at Kent General Hospital.

     Born in Philadelphia, PA July 23, 1937, he was the son of the late George Parkhill, Sr. and Elizabeth (Convery) Parkhill.  He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Elizabeth (Piedl) Parkhill; his brother, George Parkhill, Jr.; and sisters Lorraine Straughn, Louisa Piper and Christine Spencer.

     Don is survived by his loving spouse of 45 years, Loretta F. (Jordan) Parkhill; two children, Damian J. Parkhill of Magnolia and Kathleen E. Harvey of Felton; three brothers:  Thomas Parkhill and spouse Donna, Edward Parkhill and spouse Juanita and Joseph Parkhill and spouse Theresa-all from Delaware County, PA; three grandchildren: Liam, Quinn, and Bridget Harvey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Don exuded love and friendship to those he knew throughout his life.  As an inveterate reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was often regarded as a walking encyclopedia.

     Don spent decades of his life on stage as both an actor and director in theatre-especially musical theatre.  This is where he met the love of his life, Loretta (Lori).  In fact, they later married on the very stage of Candlelight Music (Dinner) Theatre in Ardentown, DE, on Christmas Eve, 1972 to a full house of fellow thespians, family and friends.

     Don, a singer with a full baritone voice, had also graced the stage with the Belfry Players (Vallejo, CA), the Wilmington Drama League, the Delaware Children’s Theatre, Kent County Theatre Guild and Milford’s Second Street Players.

    Along with his love for jazz music, Don was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.  He proudly watched his team’s first ever Super Bowl win with his family by his side.

    Taking much pride in his work as an optician, Don retired after many years of service from Delaware Eye Care Center in Dover.

     Visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., followed immediately by a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934.    Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
