Dixie Slebzak Obituary

Dixie Lynn Sterago Slebzak, a long time resident of Annapolis Maryland, died September 6, 2019 at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility in Lewes, Delaware of lung cancer.  She was surrounded by family and the supportive staff at the facility.

Lynn was born in Annapolis, Maryland on November 19, 1946 and was one of 11 children. Lynn graduated from Annapolis High School in 1964. She married James Slebzak the same year. They had one daughter, Denise. She was married to Jimmy, a member of the Avalon Rock band for 35 years until his death in 1991.

She started her career at the Anne Arundel Public Library as a clerk typist and worked her way up to Executive Secretary until an illness forced her into early retirement.  

Lynn was known for her sense of humor, her generosity and her devotion to her family.  

She created a lovely home for her family which included many beloved pets over the years.  She enjoyed participating in sports which included downhill skiing, ice-skating and roller skating..

She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and was in the stadium the day Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive game record..  

Lynn is survived by her daughter Denise Slebzak Parker, of Lewes Delaware, her four sisters, Carolyn Casey of Annapolis MD, Sally Sterago of Boston MA, Deborah Lesyshyn of Virginia Beach VA, and Rebecca Butler of Belton TX and three brothers, Anthony Wayne of Annapolis MD, David Sterago of Orem, UT and Anthony John Sterago Jr of Pforzheim Germany and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by both parents Dixie and Anthony Sterago, her husband Jimmy, sister Julia Compton, brothers Loren Paul Sterago and Douglas Bass.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date in Annapolis, Maryland.  Donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Ctr. 2nd Floor, Newark, Delaware 19711.  Her family is grateful for the care she received from hospice and from the staff at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
