Kenneth Shouldis Obituary

Kenneth Shouldis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 24, 2024, at Kent General Hospital. He was born on December 14, 1936, in Manhattan, New York, and was one of eleven siblings. 
  
Kenneth's life was marked by dedication and service. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his military career, he worked tirelessly in civil service as a data processing specialist for over two decades. 
  
Always wearing a smile, Kenneth cherished spending time with his loved ones. In his spare time, he shared his passion for basketball as a coach for the Rec Center on base housing and as a Little League coach for Camden Wyoming Little League. He was a man of many talents, working various jobs, including as a parts driver for Napa and driving the bus for YMCA and Dart.

Ken also started the Greg Shouldis 5k and ran it tirelessly for 19 years. The Shouldis family donated thousands of dollars to The leukemia society. Ken was also an avid runner and walker, as he did 9 marathons, including the New York City Marathon. He also participated in Senior Olympics. He also was a very active member of downstate Delaware striders & riders and he participated in  many Buffalo Stampedes. 
  
An avid golfer, Kenneth could often be found on the golf course, indulging in his favorite pastime. He dedicated much of his time to community service as a devoted member of Del-Vets Post 2, volunteering tirelessly for NASCAR events, bingo, and serving as a commander. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the Dover Elks Lodge #1903. 
  
Sports played a significant role in Kenneth's life. He was a passionate fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, football, NASCAR, golf, and baseball. He particularly relished watching Duke men's basketball. 
  
Kenneth was predeceased by his sons, Gregory Shouldis and Brian Shouldis, and his daughter, Debra Petrovich. He was also predeceased by 6 of his brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Shouldis, his cherished grandson, Adam Petrovich (Wyoming) and his siblings, Migie (Eileen) Shouldis, Raymond Shouldis, Moureen Hughes, and Carol Goskowsly all of Staten Island, New York. 
  
Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing on Wednesday, May 1, from 6-8pm, and on May 2, from 8:30-9:30am, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am May 2 at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE followed by interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden, DE. 
  
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Kenneth's honor, a testament to his compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others. Kenneth's legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
