George F. Kohut, 80, of Frederica, passed away on March 19, 2024 at the Center at Eden Hill after a long battle with many health issues. He was born on September 17, 1943 in St. Mary’s City, MD to the late George C. Kohut and Hilda Hammett Kohut.
Mr. Kohut graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1961. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served proudly from 1961 to 1965, the last two years stationed at Dover Air Force Base. He worked for Tudor Electric and then started his own business, Kohut Electric in 1976.
In 1963 he met and then married the love of his life, Edythe (Wilson) Kohut of Dover.
Mr. Kohut achieved scouting’s highest rank, the Eagle Scout Award, in 1957. He was an avid Eagles fan and deer hunter, teaching young teenagers how to hunt. He was a friend to many.
Mr. Kohut is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edie; his daughter Shelly (Michael) of Magnolia, DE; his son George “Bo” (Kelly) of Elkton, MD; his granddaughters Anneke and Elle; his sister Carole (Robert) Smith Hardesty of Chambersburg, PA; and four nephews: Matthew and Mark Smith and Sean and Scott Baldwin. His greatest gift was being “Pop-Pop” to his granddaughters, beloved children and devoted sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Kathleen Kohut Baldwin in 1989.
A private interment with military honors for family will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934.
