William Thomas Cheatham, Sr. of Viola, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 2, 2015, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Elsmere, DE. He was 82. William was born, August 20, 1933, in Henderson, North Carolina to the Late, Jack & Mattie Anna (Glover) Cheatham.
He attended school in Henderson, N.C. and later joined the United States Air Force, where he served proudly for over 20 years. Afterwards, he worked for Playtex in Dover as plant superintendent, before retiring. Bill was well known in the Delaware community, and spent his time in retirement continuing his travels until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mollie E. Cheatham; a son, William T. Cheatham, Jr., and his baby girl, Angela B. Cheatham.
Bill is survived by his loving and caring daughter, Pamela F. Cheatham, of Columbia, S.C.; 2 granddaughters, Brandi Azucena & Jessica Cheatham, both of Richmond, VA.; 3 great-grandsons; 3 sisters, H. Odessa Turpin, of Durham , N.C.; Evon Cheatham-Carson, of Viola; and Jean C. Reese, of Richmond, VA.; 3 brothers, Ira(I.J.) Cheatham & wife, Hazel, of Portland, Oregon; Brodie B. Cheatham & wife, Alice, of Dallas, TX.; Sterling B. Cheatham & wife, Kimberly, of Wilmington, N.C.; A host of nieces & nephews; and special friends Deacon & Deaconess Jenkins; Brother Graham Singletary; Brother & Sister Seaton and Brother Manuel Warren; and a host of family & friends including his Dover Christian Church family, trustees and deacon board.
A special Thanks to the Staff of the Veterans Community Living Center, for the wonderful care they provided until his death.
A viewing for family and friends will take place from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, October 8, 2015, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE.; where Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Friday, October 9, 2015.
