Wayne “Duke” Spence, Sr. of Milford, Delaware went home to be with the Lord on December 01, 2016.  He was 66 years old.  Wayne was born on August 29, 1950, in Ironshire, Maryland to the late Emily Jane Spence and Oliver Purnell.

Wayne attended Worcester Public School, and afterwards enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, on November 11, 1968.  He was stationed in San Francisco, CA, and also completed a tour in Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He reached the rank of Private First Class (PFC) prior to receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Wayne worked as a Foreman for Perdue for many years and later went on to work at Baltimore Aircoil as a mechanic until he retired in 2008.  Wayne “Duke” was well known for his passion for softball as a pitcher, and his love for driving his blue ‘71 Chevy Chevelle, his pride and joy.  Duke was also known for his quiet nature and his fun loving ways.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Keena of 27 years.  Wayne and Keena were joined in holy matrimony on March 5, 1988, and renewed their vows on May 21, 2016.  His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his sweet four childten: Timothy Colandis (Jacqueline), Jermell Dewayne, Victoria Renee, and Wayne Jr.  He leaves to mourn his two sisters, Audrey (Gregory) Jones, and Shelia Watson; eight wonderful grandchildren; five sister-in-laws; and three brother-in-laws; special cousin, William Purnell; lifelong friends, Quinnie McBride and Alex Johnson; and his cousin, Betty Upchurch (who shared the same birthdate), the Grotto Pizza Family of Milford; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon, on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue Wyoming DE 19934.  Friends may view from 10:00 to 12:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
