Welcome to the memorial page for

Wanda Freynick

June 6, 1918 ~ September 7, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Wanda B. Freynick, 98, passed on September 7, 2016 in DeLand, Florida. Wanda was born June 6, 1918, in Dover, Delaware, to Edward and Helen Blank. After Wanda’s birth, they were simply known and called, ‘Papa and Mama Blank’. Shortly after World War I ended, Edward and Helen immigrated to America, from Germany. Landing on Ellis Island, the young couple already had their sights set on the lush farm and horse country of Dover, Delaware. They bought a farm, Papa Blank trained horses, and together he and Mama built a thriving farm, and raised their two daughters, Wanda and Emma. Wanda was bright, always a quick learner. Emmy remembers Wanda winning every academic award available, with her nose ‘always in a book.’ Wanda’s smile managed to light up her whole face, and her deep dimples and ringing laughter, made her that much more memorable.

With her sharp mind and wit, she was a woman with a burning mission. An early feminist, she worked tirelessly, through the B.P.W. (Business and Professional Women) to promote equal pay and equal rights for women. She was a highly respected and articulate spokeswoman, in Washington arena, at a time when that was not an easy feat. A renowned bridge aficionado, she became a ‘belle’ of the Washington bridge circuit, and a favored partner of many, “because by God, she wins!”, proclaimed the much impressed, President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The love of her life, was a ‘college boy’, named Arthur Freynick. Story goes, that Arthur got Wanda to dance, ‘when she hated dancing.’ Both devoted to their careers and each other, they had no children. Arthur owned a PR firm, called Jay Consulting, in Washington, D.C. He was ‘the cook’ in the relationship, because, he would laugh, “Wanda couldn’t boil an egg.”In 1970 he was diagnosed with cancer, and died in 1980. Wanda never remarried.

It would be impossible to find two sisters closer than Wanda and Emmy. A loving sister and a loving aunt, Wanda was a devoted to her several nephews and nieces. Yes…Wanda was surrounded by love, because she knew how to give it. How she will be missed!

“An unforgettable woman she was surrounded by love.”
