Veronica Ellen "Ronnie" Dutton

Veronica Ellen Dutton, “Ronnie” of Magnolia, Delaware was called home suddenly to be with the Lord on April 13, 2016.  She was 68 years old.  Veronica was born on April 2, 1948 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Edward and Eunice Gagnon. 

At the age of 21, she met and married the love of her life, and best friend Paul, proudly supporting his service in the United States Navy.  They were blessed with 47 years together, raising two beautiful children, and five grandchildren. 

She was a very active and involved band parent.  She enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, and watching the birds, butterflies, and deer from her back porch. She was a wonderful, caring, and kind-hearted person.  This was evident in everything she did.  After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Veronica found her greatest calling in life as an elementary school teacher.  For many years she taught First Grade at W. Reily Brown, Mcilvaine, and Allen Frear Elementary, until eventually retiring from the Caesar Rodney School District.  

Throughout her life, she gave of herself generously and that continued in her passing.  As an organ donor, she was able to give the gift of life to others.  Through that gift, her memory will live on.  Above all else, she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Veronica leaves behind her loving husband, Paul; children, Michael Dutton and his wife Sarah, Beth Schmidt and her husband Albert; grandchildren, Liliah, Abigail, Ashlyn, Savannah, and Aidan; sister, Eileen Conway; aunt, Patricia Conway; cousin, Nancy Wegimont; and many fellow teachers and former students in the Caesar Rodney School District.                      

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 noon on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. 

A Gathering for family and friends will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday evening, April 18, 2016 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE. 19934.  Interment will be private and held at a later date.                           

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor can be sent to Caesar Rodney High School Veronica Dutton Scholarship Fund. Please make checks payable to CRHS 239 Old N. Road Camden, De. 19934. Attn: Veronica Dutton Scholarship Fund.
