Robert Lee Jones

Robert Lee Jones was born on February 11, 1929 in Philadelphia. PA to the late Charles Jones and Mattie (Leggett) Jones.  Robert completed his life’s journey on Thursday, October 26, 2017. 

Robert was educated in the Philadelphia Parochial school system.  Upon completion of his education, Robert, in October of 1951, enlisted in the Unites State Army and served his country in the Korean War.  He received his honorable discharge on March 20, 1953.   

After completion of his military service, Robert took on several jobs.

Robert met and married Lula Williams on April 13, 1957.

Robert was knowledgeable of many subjects and people loved to debate and converse with him.  He was happy-go-lucky and truly a people person.

Robert’s passion was jazz.  He was known to frequent the Clef Club on South Street where he interacted with many jazz and R&B musicians.  His other passion was dancing.  He could be seen dancing at many of the oldies dance clubs throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Robert was an active member of the American Legion Post #292 which is located at 4812 Fairmount Ave., Philadelphia, PA.  Since the early 80’s he always participated in the Veteran’s Memorial Day Parade.

His parents, Charles and Mattie Jones and his son, William Jones, preceded Robert in death.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his children, Denise (Anthony) Page of Delaware, Robert Jones of Philadelphia, Charles (Nanette) Jones of New Jersey, Coletta Jones of Philadelphia, Sheila Pointer of Philadelphia; first cousin, Flossie Jones; cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at 3pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, DE
