Rev George Ervin Shreckengast passed quietly into the arms of his Savior on October 20, 2016 at home after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Elizabeth (Betsy) Pepper, and by children Victoria (William) Pierce of Philadelphia, PA, Kimberly Moslen of Pittsburgh, PA, Terrance (Rebecca) Shreckengast of Pittsburgh, PA and 2 granddaughters Hannah and Avra Shreckengast; and a brother,David Shreckengast, of Loganton, PA. In addition to his parents, Pastor Ervin was also preceded in death by three siblings, Shirley Finch, Norbet Shreckengast, and Arlene McCutcheon.
Pastor Ervin was born in Tylersville, PA to the late Norbet & Jennie Shreckengast. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, DE and Eastern Pilgrim College in Allentown, PA, He then earned a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He began his ministry by filling the pulpit for a Wesleyan church in Neptune, NJ. He ministered for 40 years in the Church of the Nazarene in Pennsburg, West Mifflin, Hawthorn and Coraopolis, PA; Arcata, CA; Logan, Elkins, and Weirton, WV. In semi-retirement he pastored Pilgrim Chapel in Harrington, and Pilgrim Wesleyan in Milford, DE. He was a compassionate and gentle shepherd.
He loved Jesus, his family and his church families. He enjoyed his cars, RVs and travel. He visited 49 of the 50 United States, missing only Alaska. He also traveled to Canada and Mexico as well as Brazil with a Work and Witness missions group.
The family will receive visitors at Pippin Funeral Home,Inc.,119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE on Monday October 24 from 6-8:00 pm and Tuesday October 25 from 12-1:00 pm where Funeral Services will take place at 1:00 pm.
