Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Elizabeth Williams

February 2, 2016

Mary Elizabeth Williams, 93, of Dover passed away on February 2, 2016.

Mary will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends.  Mary was left with the responsibility of raising her siblings at an early age, so her motherly duties were a part of her life at the age of 12.  As a child, she loved to jump rope, ride bicycles and play with doll babies.  Mary met the love of her life Dick “Willard” Williams when she was 23 years old and they continued in love and marriage for over 60 years.

Mary loved to cook and teach her children how to cook “her way”.  You needed to follow her directions in the kitchen and that also meant what pan to use for cooking the bacon or eggs in and what bowls to use for putting the food away.  Her favorite foods were steak, sweet potatoes, muskrat and mac and cheese.  Her lifetime every night dessert was Bryer’s ice cream and a slice of cake or pie with it.  She loved to watch television.  You could always catch her watching COPS, Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos and Judge Judy, but her favorite show, which kept her laughing every night, was The Big Bang Theory. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers.

Mary never slowed down in her later years.  It did not matter if it was twelve at night or 3 at night, you would catch her ironing or washing dishes.  Mary had some very strict house rules: straighten out the rug and dust and vacuum every time she would tell you to do it.  Mary loved God.  She joined Holy Trinity in 1972 where she was loved by all of her church family and friends.  She loved God and Jesus was her Savior.  In the final days of her life, she did not go out without a fight.  She shared her joy and love up until God called her and said “Mary, you fought a good fight. Now it’s time to lay down those old filthy garments and get your robe of pure white”. Mary will be truly missed and always in our hearts.

Mary leaves to cherish her children: Alexander “Alex” Morris White (Delores) of Claymont, Elizabeth Robeda Williams, Steven O. Williams (Vanessa) and Thaddeus Lamont Williams (Girllena) of Dover, DE; sons Oakly Potts of Dover and Jeff Williams of Atlanta, GA; daughters Elsie D. Nix (Frank) and Charlotte Bleen both of Smyrna ,her daughter Louise Henry; her special son Kevin Brown of Dover; her brothers William Richardson of Smyrna and John H. Richardson of Wilmington; her sisters in law Lorraine Richardson of Ohio and Diane Williams of Wilmington; and her special friend Eleanor Bordley of Dover; a host of special grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great nieces, nephews, cousins and very devoted and lifelong friends from all over the United States, including special friends the Cowan family, Jack and Mary Brown, Rick and Sheila Wallace and Emma Trower.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Willard Williams, her mother Hester Ann Richardson and her father Charles Boy Richardson; her brothers and sisters: Herbert Richardson, John M. Richardson, Charlie Richardson all of Dover, DE and Leoverter (Leo) of Ohio and Ann Hester Scott and Flosie Little of Dover, DE.
