Lydia “Florence” (Clough) Masten, 83, of Dover, DE passed away peacefully at Courtland Manor Nursing Home on Monday, May 23, 2016 following a decline in health. Florence was born on August 26, 1932, daughter of the late William and Tabitha (Cohee) Clough.  Florence was also preceded in death by her sisters, Geneva Jester, Elsie Hickman, Anna Hickman, Mary Stayton-Holden; brothers, Maurice Cohee and Albert Clough.  

Florence was the beloved wife of the late John W. Masten for 56 years. She retired from Mellon Bank as Vice President and Bank Manager after 45 years.  She started at Farmers Bank as a young professional and educated through the many name changes of the banking world, such as Girard Bank, Mellon Bank and Citizens Bank. Florence was a member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church and president of the women’s club.  She directed and starred in the dinner theater at Whatcoat UMC for many years. She was well known for her roles as Minnie Pearl and Lucy. She was also a member of the Rising Sun Community Club since 1954. She was the president and founder of the RSCC Chocolate Easter Egg Project in 1976, which won the GFWC National Fundraising Award. She was the president from 1996-1998. Helping the club to grow and bring in new members to the Rising Sun Community Club.  Florence was an avid stock car racing fan and a member of the Blue Hen Chicks Red Hats Club. Often on the weekend, her and her beloved John would gather the nieces and nephews for camping trips to local sites in Delaware and Maryland.  She was a volunteer and member at Harvest Years, and was always ready to travel and visit with family and make new friends.  Florence was known for her homemade bread pudding at the annual Whatcoat Church Men’s Spaghetti dinner.

Many, many people are left to cherish her memory including beloved nieces, Ruth Ann Holden Webb and her husband William (Billy) Webb (Hartly, De) and Deborah Lynn Holden (Canonsburg, PA), including several extended family members, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

A Viewing will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, Delaware. 19934.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Pippin Funeral Home where friends may gather one hour prior.  Burial will follow services at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor can be sent to Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main Street Camden, Delaware 19934.
