Julius Matthis, husband of Barbara Matthis for over 67 years was born April 29, 1927 in Newark, NJ to the late Nada Kimble Brooks and Harry Matthis.  Julius completed his life’s journey on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

Julius Matthis, attended Arts High School in Newark, NJ.   He served our country in the US Army during World War II. He had a long career with General Motors in manufacturing, while running two of his own businesses as a master carpenter and a photographer.  Julius was a true “Renaissance Man”.  He had many interests. His level of skills usually reached perfection. He was known for whatever he chose to do, to do it right.  Julius, self-taught, compassionately and eagerly shared his knowledge with many.  Some of his hobbies included illustration, gourmet cooking, traveling, drawing, western movies, listening to jazz, (specifically Coltrane and Miles) gardening and architectural design. Additionally, everyone who had the pleasure of his acquaintance was introduced to his life-long project of researching and documenting the family’s genealogy.

Julius was the man who respected all people and showed it passionately by spending concentrated time with everyone.  His presence, charm and warmth was and is his swag.

Julius is preceded in death by his loving daughter Sharon Matthis Butler.  He leaves his wife, Bobbie, son, Gary “Raj” (Gloria) Matthis; granddaughters Janelle Butler (Terrence) Anderson and Luandra Santos (Brandon) Flowers, brother; Hayward (Precious) Brooks, niece, Monique, and two nephews Jerome and Julius Brooks.  Julius also has three great grandchildren; Devon Anderson, Neah and Ludranie Flowers. Many additional relatives, extended family members and friends mourn Julius’ departure.

Julius’ life was phenomenal. (90 Plus Years.)  All we can say about Julius is “Job Well Done”.  And in his jargon, Julius was considered “Just Kool and Old School”
