Welcome to the memorial page for

Joseph Melvin Sudler

December 25, 1954 ~ April 30, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Elder Joseph “Melvin” Sudler of Clayton, Delaware departed this life on April 30, 2017 at home surrounded by his love ones from a long illness. Melvin was born to the late Herbert Marion Sudler Sr. and late Grace Claire White-Sudler on December 25, 1954 in their homesteads in Kenton Delaware. He was the thirtieth child of fifteen children.

Melvin was a lifetime resident of Smyrna. He graduated from Smyrna High School in 1973. Melvin retired from Johnson Control’s Battery Plant in Middletown Delaware with 37 years of Service.

Melvin had a great love for his Savior Jesus Christ and his life reflected his desire to follow him. Elder Joseph Melvin Sudler was the Assistant Pastor at The Potter’s House Ministries in Chestertown, Maryland. Melvin was a God Fearing man who loved people and people loved him. One of Melvin greatest accomplishment was receiving his Bachelor Degree of Theology in 2009. Melvin enjoys spending time with the Lord, reading and studying his Word. He loved sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen. He was looking to go higher heights and deeper depths in the Lord. He enjoyed working inside and outside the Church and he was Faithful in Serving the Lord. If you asked him how he was doing he was always “EXCELLENCE” because he knew and believed God’s Word “as a man thinketh so is he”. Most of all he loved praising and worshiping God.

Melvin loved spending time with family and friends, taking vacation, lying on the beach with his wife, spending time with his grandsons, going to car shows, working in his garden and fishing. He specially looks forwards to “Tuesday date night” with his wife. He enjoys working with his hands and restoring his 1948 Chevy Coup - any skill that he put his mind to he achieves. Melvin was an avid Eagle Fan.

Melvin was preceded in death not only by his parents but two siblings, a sister Evelyn Howard and a brother Donald Sudler. Also, a step-mother Ms. Maggie Sudler.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend Bessie Diane Johnson-Sudler of Clayton, DE.  His beloved son Joseph Jermaine Johnson-Sudler (Melissa) of Dover, DE.
