John Hiram Zimmerman, Jr. of Wyoming passed away in the early morning hours of March 31, 2018 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
John was born in Reading, PA to John Hiram, Sr. and Ella L. Gross as one of two children. John served in the United States Air Force; upon his honorable discharge, he joined the Civil Service at the Dover Air Force Base to work as the foreman of the propeller shop on the C-133s and C-141s until those planes were decommissioned. In 1971, after retiring from the Civil Service, John and Jane then started their second career as the new owners of Jen-Mor Florist and after 47 years their family-owned business still continues to carry on his legacy.
John was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, loved to do crossword puzzles, was known for wearing colorful suspenders, and had unorthodox sense of humor. Known as Mr. Z to many, he had a regular seat at Hall’s restaurant. The most important thing in the world to him was his family.
He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Jane and his son, Wayne. John is survived by his five beloved children: John III and Cher of Milford, Steven and Laura of Millville, Michael and Darlene of Wyoming, Susan and Kenny Krabill of Frederica and Gina and Robert Fries of Harrington and his adopted daughter, Lynn of Frederica, his much adored grandchildren: John IV and Kelly, Justin, Kasey and Adam Perza, Jeremy Krabill and Kirsten, Sarah, Michael Jr. and Anna, Tyler Krabill, Raechel and Shane Peifer, Kayla and Phillip, Taylor, Aubrey Krabill, and Morgan. His eight great-grandchildren: Kayleigh and Kari Perza, Alletta Krabill, Conner Peifer, Isabelle and Michael III, Emily, and Gabriel Simmons.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be at the same location on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. with a 10 a.m. visitation. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
