Jimmie A. Brooks age 74, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on March 27, 2017.
A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was stationed in Bermuda, Charleston, Warner Robbins, Ga. and served two tours in air rescue and recovery in Southeast Asia before coming to Dover as a loadmaster with the C-5s in 1974. His service decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, Vietnam service medal and Armed forces expeditionary medal.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1981, he joined the U.S. Postal Service, working as a letter carrier out of the Dover Post Office for 23 years. He was president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Southern Delaware branch 906 for 20-some years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jane Reid Brooks, daughter Tara Mundy and husband Michael, son Drew Brooks and wife Jennifer and beautiful granddaughters Alexis Slacum and Jessica Brooks, three sisters Janet Brown (Ray), Joan Lawrence and Judy Bryson and a brother Joel Brooks all of Smyrna, GA.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon Monday, April 3, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Visitation will be one hour before service. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Heartland Hospice.
