Welcome to the memorial page for

James William Moore

January 12, 1924 ~ January 2, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

James William Moore passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2017.  James was born in Milford, Delaware on January 12, 1924. He was the son of the late William and Sara (Kelley) Moore.  James was a resident of Felton for 80 years.  For the past 7 years he lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Joe Raymond, in Dover.  A graduate of Felton High School and City Barber School in Baltimore, Jim was a barber for 46 years in Felton.  While in high school Jim played baseball and basketball and later played baseball in the Mar-Del League in the forties.  He enjoyed attending the annual reunion dinners.

Jim retired in 1987.  He was certainly a “people person”.  Following his retirement he would have lunch and visit with longtime friends as well as new friends on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Dover Mall.  On Wednesdays he looked forward to playing cards at the Harrington Senior Center.  He cherished the friendship of all the card players.  During the fall and winter you could find Jim at a high school football or basketball game.  He was a dedicated, familiar fan to many coaches, officials, players, and spectators.  He saw 100 basketball games a year, including high school, Wesley College, and Slam Dunk at the Beach.  The highlight of the season was going to the Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware for the high school State Basketball Tournament. Jim was honored to receive a ballot from the Delaware High School Basketball Hall of Fame each year.  He enjoyed reading the resumes of the nominees and voting for those he felt were deserving of the honor.

Jim was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.  He was in the Medical Corp, assigned to the 68th General Hospital.  He served over 2 years in the European Theatre of Operations in Scotland, Wales, England, and France.  He received the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Following his 70th birthday celebration in January, 1994, Jim had open heart surgery.  After surviving a serious surgery he and his family decided to celebrate each following birthday with a party.  Jim looked forward to these annual dinners with family and friends.

While living in Felton he walked to the post office daily after retiring.  He enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.  He was known for his outstanding memory.  Jim was a wonderful resource person for the Felton Alumni Association.

Jim was a member of the Felton Alumni Association, AARP, Harrington Senior Center, and the Felton Viola United Methodist Church.  The family would like to thank those friends who sent cards and visited Jim.  They would also like to thank Delaware Hospice for their care.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Priscilla Garton Moore, his sister, Musetta Cox Hausler, and his brother, John Edward Moore.

His is survived by his daughter, Connie Raymond and his son-in-law Joe Raymond of Dover, his son, Chris Moore and daughter-in-law JoAnn of Georgetown, four grandchildren-Chad Moore and his wife, Michelle of Houston, Susan Damask and her husband, Paul of Camden, Jessica Main and her husband Christopher, of Dover, and Andrea Moore of Orlando, Florida, and 3 great grandchildren-Logan Moore of Smyrna, Violet Moore of Houston, and Ella Damask of Camden.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W.
