Ima Jean Greenfield of Dover went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017 surrounded by her family at Kent General Hospital at the age of 89.
Jean was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dover, Delaware and in earlier years a member of Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and also spent many years making and selling her own specialty cheesecakes for the Cheese Shop in the Blue Hen Mall and as a representative for Avon.
Jean enjoyed the beach, porcelain/china painting, water aerobics, calligraphy, and researching her family genealogy. She was a Cub Scout den mother, worked the election polls every year and was a member of the Dover Ki-wives Club of Kiwanis.
She graduated from Little Rock Central High School (the first racially integrated high school in the USA) and attended Little Rock Junior College before heading to Washington DC to work as a secretary to the Vice President of the US Civil Service Commission, US Navy.
Jean was the daughter of the late Ethel Marie Clark Stacks and Howell Jethro Stacks of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bernhard A. Greenfield; four children: Sharon J. Cohee and her husband Don of Felton, David C. Greenfield and his wife Kathy of Reading, MA, Adriene M. Greenfield of Claymont, DE and Adam B. Greenfield of Boston, MA; five grandchildren: Corey M. Cohee and his wife Kelli, Brian Greenfield, Jonathan “J.D.” Greenfield, Jason Cohee and his wife Stacey and Caleb Greenfield; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus Street, Dover, DE 19901 with a viewing at 11am, service at noon followed by the burial at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery and a reception.
