On Saturday morning, August 13, 2016, our loved one Ernestine Johnson was called home from the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE to her eternal rest.
Ernestine, the daughter of the late Helen Stribling and George Scott, Sr. was born on March 27, 1935 in South Carolina. She attended the public school system in Florida before making Delaware her home.
Ernestine joined Calvary Baptist Church in 1982 and was a faithful member up to her illness. She served on the usher board many years and was a member of the choir.
Ernestine enjoyed going fishing, cooking, singing, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She dearly cherished her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years George Johnson, Sr., a great-grandson Princeton Johnson, a brother George Scott Jr. and two sisters Casey Gracia and Janice Holmes.
Ernestine leaves to cherish her loving memory three sons, David and wife Christine Baker, Gregory and wife Kim Johnson, Leon Johnson; three daughters Bonita Johnson, Pamela and husband Timothy Williams, Gwen Johnson; two sisters Joyce and Husband Sam Bunkley, Shirley Cormier; one brother James Stribling; three grandchildren that she raised as her own Gregory Jr., Teena and Marshay Johnson; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, step daughter, Abidale Finney and a host of other relatives and friends that loved her.
Funeral Service Thursday 6 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, Queen Street at Fulton, Dover, DE. Friends may call beginning at 4 pm. Interment Service Friday, 10 am at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
