Dr. Winfried Leo Mroz

February 8, 1929 ~ March 28, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


     Dr. Winfried L. Mroz was born in Germany, the son of the late Hedwig and Max Mroz.  After the usual schooling he attended the University at Bonn, Germany, where he obtained his degree of Doctor of Medicine.  In 1956 he immigrated to the United States and continued his post graduate training in White Plains, NY and Bridgeport, Connecticut.   He served two years in the U.S. Air Force at Dover AFB.  In 1964 he opened his private practice in Dover.  He was a fellow of the Board of OB-GYN, having obtained his specialist certification in 1967.  He was a past president of the staff of Kent General Hospital, and a past president of the Kent County Medical Society.  He retired in 1995. During his retirement he served as a teacher at the Southern Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning, teaching history and language classes.

     He lived with his family on a farm west of Dover, raising horses and running a riding stable where many children learned to ride.  He was a life member of the Soaring Society of America with a certificate for single engine planes as well as gliders and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 15 years.  He was also a member of the Dover Early Music Consort, the Viola Da Gamba Society and Early Music America as well as a co-founder and member of both the Dover Symphony and the Dover English Country Dancers.  Dr. Mroz was a member of Christ Church and also Honorary Staff at Kent General Hospital where he served as an active staff member for 31 years.

     He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Dr. Edith Maria Mroz.  He is survived by his sister Anne Marie, his children Chris, Peter, Rosemarie and Paul and their spouses, and seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one great grandchild and two nieces and three nephews.

     There will be a gathering to pay respects on Sunday April 2, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. that will include family eulogies at 12:30 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Greater Dover Arts Council in his honor or to any organization of which he was a member.  Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
