David Whitney Obituary

     David Whitney, 68, of Dover passed away on March 6, 2018 at Kent General Hospital.

     David was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on June 12, 1949 to Msgt (Ret) James and Luzzella Whitney.  After his father settled at Dover Air Force Base, David graduated from Dover Air Force Base High School in 1970.

     Mr. Whitney had been a chemical operator for Diamond Shamrock, which later became Oxy Chemical in Delaware City, retiring after 31 years of service.  Afterwards, he was employed by Eastman Chemical in Chestertown, MD for about 20 years.

     Mr. Whitney enjoyed listening to music and playing music on his acoustical guitar.  He was a movie buff and especially enjoyed having family movie night every Friday evening.  He was a bodybuilder and liked power lifting.  He liked to re build automobiles as well as remote control cars.  He collected corvettes and elephants.  Mr. Whitney was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  His personal motto was “I can, I shall, I will”.

     Mr. Whitney is survived by his wife Susan and his six children:  David Whitney of Utah, Halisa Sowash and her husband Sean of Oklahoma, Tye Gail of Dover, Jason Whitney of Dover, Karen Whitney of Dover and Jazzmin Whitney of Dover; nine siblings: Carolyn, James, Jonathan (his twin), Dexter, Leta, Keith, Chris, Tony and Jeffrey; four grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, Lena, as well as nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Whitney is preceded in death by his parents James and Luzzella and one brother Dexter.

     A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday.  Burial will be private.  Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
