David O. Tompkins

David O. Tompkins, 81, a Delaware native, died June 24, 2017 at the Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Concord, MA after a long period of declining health.  

Born in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late Delos and Mary Elizabeth (Heller) Tompkins.  He was a graduate of P.S. DuPont in Wilmington Class of 1953, and studied American Studies at the University of Delaware, graduating in 1957.  In 1959 he enlisted with the Delaware National Guard with communications specialist training at Ft. Dix, NJ and summer training at Bethany Beach, DE through 1965.  He and his wife, "Ginny" were married June 8, 1963 at the Wesley Methodist Church.  A resident of Acton, MA since 1967, he was a retired Senior Development Officer at Northeastern University in Boston.

David was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Ann (Field) Tompkins who died in 2009.  He is survived by four cousins, Greg and Dwight Tompkins, Virginia Harris and Donald Tompkins and their families, as well as extended family on his wife’s side.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
