Charlotte E (Rehefeld) Venohr

Charlotte Erica (Rehefeld) Venohr, 103, of Dover, Delaware, passed away on October 30, 2017. She was born on July 20, 1914 in Danzig, Langfuhr, Germany to the late Georg and Johanna Rehefeld. Throughout her childhood, Charlotte took frequent trips with her family to the beach at Broesen. She attended school in Danzig and later worked as an apprentice at the Kaiser Kaffee.  It was at the See Stern in Broesen, that Charlotte met the love of her life, Erich. After becoming engaged, Charlotte moved to Koenigsberg, then later Zinten, East Prussia. She married Erich Venohr on May 6, 1939.

Erich was drafted into World War II during July of the same year. Charlotte would only see him a few more times, while he was on leave, before he died in battle in Odessa near the Black Sea in 1944.

In 1953, Charlotte and their two small daughters fled over Berlin, to the American sector of Germany. She made Offenbach am Main their new home, and would live there until she moved to Dover, Delaware in April 2009.

Charlotte, fondly known as Omi, will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She devoted her life to caring for her family and loved ones and enjoyed all of the precious moments she shared with them. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Sibylle Charlotte Ramminger and her husband Wilfred, grandson Cliff Ramminger and Michelle Anson, granddaughter Natascha M. Ward and her husband John. She also leaves behind many caring friends from the Caregivers’ Support Group at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

Funeral Service Friday, November 3, 2017, 11 am at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE 19934.   Friends may gather beginning at 10 am.  Interment to follow Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Caregivers’ Support Group of the Modern Maturity Center, Dover.
