Catherine Reba (Hinson) Cherry

Catherine Reba Cherry, was born on November 22, 1934 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Catherine was born the sixth of eleven children to the late Richard and Ethel Hinson. She departed this life, in her home, with her daughter by her side, on Monday, July 11, 2016.

A graduate of Overbook High School’s class of 1954, Catherine received all of her education in the School District of Philadelphia.  In 1963, Catherine married the late Wilbert Cherry. From this union two daughters were born; Lisa and Yolanda. Now the mother of three, Catherine dedicated herself to her family. She worked many years at Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., where she took an early retirement and was able to spend more time with her family and friends.

Catherine was a long time member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church until the passing of her beloved husband in 2003. Shortly after, Catherine moved to Magnolia, Delaware to live with her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Sean.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ethel Hinson; her husband Wilbert Cherry; her son Derek Hinson; four brothers and two sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Lisa Gavin and Yolanda Wilson; one son-in-law Sean Gavin; four grandchildren, Shanea Daniels and husband Dominic Daniels, Shawna Gavin, Tiana Wilson and Terrell Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Anaiyah Daniels, Jaiden Wilson, Ayliana Wilson, and Amirah Daniels; three brothers, Howard Hinson, George Hinson, and Lawrence Hinson; one sister, Eleanor Showell; one sister-in-law, Rose Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation Monday, July 18, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE.  Funeral Service 11 am Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Phillipian Baptist Church, 5801 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA.  Entombment Ivy Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
