Carlton L. Soares, Sr., of Dover, passed away on May 6, 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was 84 years old.  Carlton was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the late Mary Piva and Jesse Soares.  He is also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alice.   

Carlton proudly served his country in the United States Navy, working as a radioman on the USS Iowa, during the Korean War.  He returned to civilian life for a brief period, before transferring into the United States Air Force, as a Loadmaster.  After 24 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Master Sergeant, from Dover AFB.  His most notable achievement was earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in combat.

Carlton was very active in his church, serving as a Lay Eucharist Minister for many years at the Carpenter Chapel on DAFB, formerly known as Chapel 2.  He was also a Former Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus.  Above all else, Carlton cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Carlton is survived by his loving children, Caryn Eisenberg and her husband, Terry of Weston, Florida., Lynne Brownwell and her fiancé, Bruce Bushee of Magnolia, and Carlton Soares, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Milford; 7 grandchildren, Lauren Eisenberg Fein, Eric Eisenberg, Neal, Sean, and Lindsey Brownwell, and Jessica and Corey Soares; he is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Almond of Fairhaven Massachusetts., and brother, Lauran Soares of Clermont, Florida.   

A Viewing will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, Delaware. 19934.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the Carpenter Chapel, DAFB (Housing Side), Dover. Burial with full military honors will follow services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
