Barbara Marie Savage, 81, of Winter Haven, FL left her earthly life on November 5, 2014, for one of celebration and rejoicing with her husbands, Rev. Wilbur E. Burgess and Clarence Savage, Jr. and many family members awaiting her arrival in Heaven.
Born on February 5, 1933 in Frederica, Delaware, Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late Robert Alvah and Nettie Seward Melvin. Barbara served as a deaconess for the Wesleyan Church, Dean of Women at Penn Wesleyan College in Allentown, PA and finally retired after over 20 years as the school secretary at General H.H. Arnold Elementary in Caesar Rodney School District. Barbara enjoyed entertaining friends in her home for dinner and of course a card game of Hand and Foot or Dominos.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Becker and husband , Chris, of Mooresville, NC; step-daughters Donna Sides of Media, PA and Shar Alex and husband, Paul, of Wilmington, DE; brother Rev. George A. Melvin of Brooksville, FL and brother-in-law, A. James Collins, of Harrington, DE. Barbara’s pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Melissa Alex and Blaise Becker. Barbara is now lovingly reunited with her sisters, Dottie Reed Mervine, Mary Ann Collins and Margaret Melvin.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM, Sunday, November 9, 2014, at the Trinity Wesleyan Church, Dover, DE with Rev. John Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, MD. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901 or Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
